“I have performed Shakespeare in 29 countries, I've played leading Shakespearean roles on some of the world’s great stages.

From The Pushkin Theatre in Moscow to BAM in New York, The Barbican and even The National Theatre of Taiwan, I have had the privilege to explore the language of Shakespeare in truly great company. Along the way I have developed a process of my own for interrogating, learning, understanding, and performing Shakespeare.

Playing Will Shakespeare in the West End smash hit ‘Shakespeare in Love’ afforded me the opportunity to research the great writer in what some might call “too much” depth. There has been so much written and so much speculated about Shakespeare, but his works have stood the test of time for a reason. Getting inside the mind of this great writer for the role was a small - but pivotal - part of my journey to becoming a Shakespeare-head.

I was very lucky early on for my stars to have crossed with those of the inimitable Declan Donnellan. A true genius, an original thinker, a wonderful mentor, and one of the kindest, most curious souls I have ever known. It is Donnellan’s explorations of humanity, mixed with the bounty of Shakespeare, that have been most enlightening to me and my work. I feel that I stand on the shoulders of giants and am now compelled to pass the work on, through the lens of my own methodology.”
